Sierra Leone’s Ambassador To Türkiye Attends The African Diplomatic Corps Quarterly Meeting, Encourages Colleagues To Support Country’s Bid For The UNSC Non-Permanent Seat 2024-2025

Divan Hotel , Ankara, Türkiye, Friday 2 September 2022 – Sierra Leone Ambassador to Türkiye, Mohamed Hassan Kai-Samba has attended the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) Quarterly Meeting, and has encouraged his colleague Ambassadors to support the country’s bid for the United Nations Security Council for 2024-2025 non-permanent seat.

The African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) in Turkey is an organization composed of 36 Ambassadors to Türkiye representing African countries. The goal of the organization is to lobby Turkish politicians and educate diplomats, educators, policy analysts and the media on current affairs in Africa,

In a welcome statement, the Head of the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC), Majok Guandong Thiep, who doubled as the Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan, thanked the people and government of the Republic of Türkiye for their role in the peace process between Ukraine and Russia, saying that the intervention of Türkiye was timely and brotherly. He therefore called on other nations around the world to join Türkiye in bringing lasting peace between the two countries.

Ambassador Majok Guandong Thiep noted that the quarterly meeting of the ADC was to bring African countries in Türkiye together to plan, discuss ways and solutions that would foster development and effect positive change on the African continent.

“We need to be active and be able to put our concerns to the Turkish government, for our general good. Thank you for coming and may God bless the African solidarity”, he concluded.

On his path, His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Hasan Kai-Samba thanked the leadership of the ADC, saying that the organization should engage the Turkish government on the manner in which Africans in the Republic of Türkiye were being deported to their home countries at an alarming rate. He said that many of the African deported were holders of the Turkish residence permit.

Ambassador Kai-Samba further said it was time for constructive engagement with the relevant authorities on how matter relating to African citizens could be resolved and returned to normalcy; as he said, on many occasions he had demanded from the Turkish Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs for the embassy to have audience with Sierra Leoneans held in different detention centers for the crime being committed and if due processes were observed during their detention.

“Excellences, as it has been indicated by other Ambassadors, the issue of deportation and harassment of Africans is not only affecting my country Sierra Leone, but all of us. We need to set a committee that will engage the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs on issues affecting our citizens.

“Finally, my country Sierra Leone is the African Union endorsed candidate for the UNSC 2024-2025, I want to take this opportunity to inform you all and solicit your continued support in achieving this dream. Thank you for your audience”, Ambassador Kai-Samba noted.
