Sierra Leone Ambassador To Türkiye Francess Virginia Anderson Joins Other Heads Of Mission Celebrate 62nd Anniversary Of An African Union
Sheratons Ankara Hotel, Ankara, Türkiye, Monday 26 May 2025 -* Her Excellency Francess Virginia Anderson, PhD, Sierra Leone Ambassador to Türkiye has joined other Heads of Mission in Ankara to celebrate the 62nd Anniversary of the African Union.

The African Union (AU) is a continental organization that was established in 2002 to promote unity and solidarity among African states, replacing the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which was founded in 1963. Its origins trace back to the First Congress of Independent African States held in 1958 in Accra, Ghana, which laid the groundwork for future cooperation among African nations. The AU aims to enhance economic development, promote international cooperation, and address various challenges facing the continent. Significant milestones include the Sirte Declaration in 1999, which called for the establishment of the AU, and the adoption of Agenda 2063 in 2013, outlining the continent's vision for the future.

The celebration of the 62nd Anniversary of the AU, with the theme: “Justice For Reparation”, reaffirmed Member States’ commitment to Pan-African solidarity, resilience, and the cultural and intellectual revival of the continent.

The celebration captured significant milestones, including cultural exhibitions and heritage showcases, aiming at celebrating the continent's journey towards unity, liberation, and self-determination.

Her Excellency Dr. Francess Virgina Anderson was in attendance alongside staff members of the Embassy.
