Donation of Food Items by the Sierra Leone Embassy to the Sierra Leonean Community in Turkey
The Corona pandemic continues to turn life upside down for many Sierra Leoneans in Turkey. This problem has got doubled with the imposition of lockdown by the Turkish Government, as they are not in a position to go anywhere to get food and other essential items.

Against this backdrop, on 2nd and 4th June 2021, the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Turkey exerted efforts to provide speedily humanitarian aid to a substantial number of Sierra Leoneans living in Ankara and Istanbul.
The humanitarian assistance was geared towards assuring the Sierra Leonean community in Turkey of the Embassy’s steadfast support and commitment to all Sierra Leoneans in Turkey. It was also a way of encouraging the community to be law-abiding and peaceful.
The Embassy in its short period of operation has been assiduously working in an effort to protect and promote the lives of Sierra Leoneans in Turkey. Since its inception, the Embassy has realised the need to intensify the commitment of the Government of Sierra Leone with regard to providing high-quality services to Sierra Leone citizens both at home and abroad, as well as in the development of bilateral relations between countries, including those relating to the rules of protection.
In his address to the community, the Ambassador of Sierra Leone to Turkey commented on the frequent physical violence perpetrated against the women by their Sierra Leonean male compatriots. He stated that violence against women is a human rights violation, and the immediate and long-term consequences can be devastating. He, therefore, urged the community to prevent violence against women, encouraging them to focus on education and respectful relationships.
Community members profoundly conveyed thanks and appreciation to the Embassy for such laudable assistance, which came at the appropriate time. They, therefore, expressed with certainty that the Embassy is in Turkey to truly seek their interest and alleviate their sufferings. They noted the cordial relations existing between the Embassy and the community.
