African Diplomatic Corps Engages The Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs On The Well-being OF Africans In Türkiye

 

Ankara, Türkiye, Tuesday 5 September 2023 – His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba has joined the African Diplomatic Corps –ADC- in Ankara engage the Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on range of issues that are affecting the wellbeing of Africans living in the country, particularly the frequent arrest, detention, harassment and deportation.

The ADC is an organization composed of Thirty Six (36) African Ambassadors to Türkiye. The goal of the organization is to lobby Turkish politicians, other international non-governmental organizations, educators, policy analysts and the media on current affairs in Africa; and most importantly to sell the image of the continent.

Speaking on behalf of the organization, the Dean of the ADC, Majok Guandong Thiep, Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to Türkiye thanked Deputy Minister Ahmet Yildiz for making time to meet with them, saying that the organization was very saddened by the ways in which the Turkish authorities were treating Africans in Türkiye.

Ambassador Majok Guandong Thiep further noted that the organization notes with great concern the arbitrary arrest, detention and deportation of some African nationals without the due process of notifying the respective Embassies of the cause, arrests and reason for their deportation. He therefore appealed to the Turkish authorities on the need for Turkish authorities to inform respective Embassies of all such arrests and deportation of African nationals in line with International Humanitarian Laws.

“The ADEC appreciates the cooperation of Turkish authorities and shares the concern of Türkiye and international community over illegal migration' The ADC would like to reiterate its commitment to ensuring that the issue of African migration follows due process”, he concluded.
